The term "aromatherapy" was coined by a French chemist Rene Gattefosse to describe the physical and mental benefits experienced when people are exposed to pure essential oils derived from aromatic plants. These powerful oils affect mood and emotion to create a sense of well being.
The positive power of fragrances, essences and oils and their many different ability to keep body and soul healthy have been known for millennia. Ancient examples include dried plants, fruits and grasses being used for purification. The ancient Egyptians and Greeks used essential oils of rose, hyacinth and jasmine for massage and bathing.
